What’s Up With Foldable Smartphones?

In a very tight smartphone market, the one that initiates innovation into its new products usually gets some added attention among consumers. The usual players may have some inherent advantages in the market. But it can take some new innovative feature from a competitor that may just take that advantage down a notch. One of the recent innovations gaining ground is the foldable smartphone.

The smartphone market may have gone through a period of time where there was a lack of eye-catching innovative features that for every new smartphone model that came out. It was just simply churning out newer models of smartphones with bigger and better specs and nothing else. And of course, they came with higher price points as well. There simply wasn’t any new feature that any new smartphone model can really consider as innovative enough for the market. But then the new smartphones with foldable screens started coming out.

A number of smartphone makers has started coming up with new foldable phone. The more notable ones of such phones are coming from Samsung. One of the more recent models launched is the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is already the 2nd iteration in the series of foldable phones from the said brand. It features a 6.23-inch main display screen. When flipped open, this foldable phone offers a secondary 7.6-inch Infinity Flex Display screen that is protected by ultra-thin glass to make it flexible and yet durable. Both of the displays already support HDR10+ for a more improved image color depth. The internal display also features a 120 Hz refresh rate.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor and an Adreno 650 GPU. It also comes with a 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB storage. It also comes with 5 cameras, which includes three rear-facing 12MP camera lenses and one 10 MP front facing camera on the main screen and another 10MP front facing camera on the inside screen. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 also comes with a pair of fast-charging batteries with a total of 4500 mAh capacity. The foldable smartphone also supports the Qi wireless charging technology. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is currently available for around US$1,400.
