YotaPhone 2 Comes With Better LCD and E-ink Displays

YotaPhone 2The first YotaPhone introduced the world’s only smartphone with both an LCD and an E-ink display. This dual-display phone sought to achieve something not yet available in the market. The company did succeed. But creating a market for the device may be more of the challenge. The appealing factor for such a device may not be that attractive to most of the general consumers of new gadgets and devices. But still undeterred, the company has again launched the YotaPhone 2.

The YotaPhone 2 comes with better upgrades and improvement s over its predecessor. It still has its trademark colored and e-ink displays back to back. Aside from that, the new model now sports a sleeker design with curved corners compared to the blocky design of its predecessor. The new YotaPhone 2 now features a bigger 5-inch colored AMOLED LCD display and also a bigger 4.7-inch E-ink display on the other “front”. The cameras on the new smartphone however got a bit of a downgrade. While the front-facing “selfie” camera improved to 2.1MP from the 1MP camera in the original YotaPhone, the main camera module on the new YotaPhone 2 is down to 8MP from the 13MP featured in its predecessor. It may be a cost saving measure for the company, considering that these phones are not really cheap.

The YotaPhone 2 is powered by a Quad core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM. The phone also comes with a 32GB onboard storage. Unfortunately, there is no card slot available to expand its memory. It also supports WiFi and Bluetooth technology as well as NFC, GPS as well as GLONASS features. The phone also supports Cat 4 LTE making it an ideal phone for use in European and Middle Eastern markets aside from the US and other parts of the world.

The 2,500 mAh battery on the YotaPhone 2 is good for up to 2 days of using basic smartphone functions. With the E-ink display, users can enjoy up to five days of reading on a single charge. Considering that the YotaPhone 2 stands alone with its dual LCD and E-ink displays, it does not come cheap. The YotaPhone 2 is currently available for pre-order at around $860 to $870. It is set to be available first in Asian markets early next year, with North and Latin America markets to follow soon after.
