It is the night gamers have been waiting for, as Microsoft’s Xbox One goes on sale at midnight tonight with lavish events being held in 13 countries from New Zealand to the United States. (Other countries include the Australia, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, and Canada.)

Retailers such as Tesco and Game in the UK are prepared to open its doors once midnight strikes to accommodate the crowd, while Amazon has already stocked its warehouses with loads of Xbox One’s to keep up with the demand. Best Buy even offers a special “Day One” edition, featuring a special controller with the words “Day One 2013” on it.

Microsoft even provided a “doctor’s note” of sorts for those who would not show up for work because they would spend hours playing with their Xbox One, saying that they would not be able to fulfill their scheduled commitments due to “Zombie Flu”.

“Because of the severity of the condition I’m prescribing a heavy does of Xbox One. He needs to destroy zombies,” the note says. “After a thorough examination, I’ve concluded that the all-in-one entertainment system is the only cure for the aforementioned condition.”

The Xbox One costs $499.99 in the US and £429 in the UK.
