Xbox 360 to accept self-published games

A game developer has implied that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will allow self-published games through its Xbox Live Arcade as early as August 2013.

In an announcement, FarSight Studios has revealed that it plans to bring its title Pinball Arcade back to Xbox 360 even without a publisher. Pinball Arcade was first introduced as an iOS app in February 2012.

The Xbox 360 version of the game was taken out of Xbox Live Arcade as Microsoft revoked its license agreement with Crave Entertainment after the publisher emerged from bankruptcy.

“Microsoft has just announced that indie developers can now self-publish on Xbox Live Arcade instead of being required to find publishers for their games,” FarSight Studios stated. This would enable the company to “immediately submit all of the unreleased Table Packs to our long-suffering 360 users.”

Pinball Arcade is said to come back in Xbox Live Arcade as self-published games.

The company has also said it plans to bring the popular game to Microsoft’s upcoming console, the Xbox One, in the future.

“Microsoft has stated that the new program will open in August–we will do everything we can to get the Pinball Arcade back on the Xbox 360 as quickly as possible,” the studio revealed.

However, a spokesperson for Microsoft has said the company has not announced any changes on its policy for Xbox 360 regarding self-published games.
