Volvo is set to unveil three new concept designs, the first of which is the Volvo Concept Coupe that takes design cues from the company’s legendary P1800. The Concept Coupe has a retro feel, yet conveys a very timely design.

The Volvo Concept Coupe features a “floating grille”, T-shaped running lights on the front, and very distinct C-shaped lights at the back. Its interior is even more interesting with its large vertical touchscreen and handcrafted crystal gear stick (something that may not be actually realized in production, but it looks cool).

“The new Volvo Concept Coupe reveals how we could shape our cars from now on. Free from the superficial surface excitement of other brands, we add emotional value to the Volvo brand with the calm, confident beauty that is the hallmark of Scandinavian design,” Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo’s senior vice president of design, said in a statement.

The car maker will feature this new design in its upcoming XC90 crossover, which is expected to be unveiled in 2014.
