Twitter Music app shuts down

It is the day the Twitter Music died. Twitter has announced its stand-alone mobile music app was pulled out from the App Store Friday and will cease working on devices that have already downloaded it beginning April 18.

The pullout comes just a year after the social media company introduced #Music, which sought to help users discover new music acts from solo artists to bands. Despite positive reviews, Twitter Music just could not keep up with the competition from the likes of Shazam, Indie Shuffle, and Discovr.

In a statement, Twitter says it still has plans on making its niche in mobile music happen. “We continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity we see every day on Twitter,” the company said on its @TwitterMusic account.
