Tech blog AllThingsD has reported that Snapchat, the startup famous for rejecting Facebook’s $3 billion offer, has acquired a former Facebook executive as the company’s new COO.
Taking on the new leadership role is Emily White, the director of business operations for Facebook-owned Instagram. She was a part of FB since 2011 as director of mobile partnerships. In April, White was then assigned to Instagram and was also involved in bringing advertisement to the photo-sharing service last month. This is probably what she will do with Snapchat as well, as the startup has yet to raise funding since June.
As Snapchat’s no. 2 person, White will work directly with the company’s CEO Evan Spiegel. In an interview with AllThingsD, she said: “I have always been captivated by the creativity that has gone into the product, and I think that Evan has been looking for someone who can help him grow and scale what is already something that has changed a lot of the way people think about the mobile experience.”
Although Snapchat has yet to confirm White’s position within the company, Facebook has verified the report.
