Call it a little piece of saving gracing. This cellphone charger, dubbed by its creators as the “world’s smallest,” has been gaining attention all over the tech news sites.
The Fuel Micro Charger, which looks like a tiny fuel canister, is designed to provide 20 to 30 minutes of additional talk time, or up to a few more battery hours while on standby.
Its developer, Massachusetts-based Devotec Industries, says the Fuel charger is “perfect for when you have had an unexpected delay, or haven’t been able to fully charge your phone, and need to make a few calls, send a work email or use your GPS and maps function to find your way home.”
Fuel is easy-to-use. Simply turn the power switch on, then plug it into the phone and it will charge the device immediately. It measures 1.3 x 0.9 x 0.5 inches, a tad larger than a quarter and it can fit on a keyring or in a small pocket.
There is, however, a catch. Because of its size, Fuel only works on iPhone 5 and iPad mini. “The 4/S 30-pin connector is just too big to integrate well into the design,” Devotec writes on its Kickstarter page.
As of this posting, Devotec has already able to reach close to triple its crowd funding goal at $55,000 with 16 days to spare. It has yet to reveal its stretch goals, probably more production units.
