Silence For Android: Make Your Smartphone Go Hush When You Need It

We all have been through this: you are inside the cinema watching a movie and you have forgotten to switch your smartphone to silent mode. You realized that because it rang loudly, much to the chagrin of the people around you.

These awkward moments could happen any time–while commuting to work, while attending mass, just as you are about to propose to your girlfriend. What is even worse is when you have forgotten to turn your phone back on after the fact. You check your smartphone and realize that you have 10 missed calls that you did not answer because it was silent for far too long.

As with everything else in life, there is an app to solve that.

Epsilon Labs launched Silence for Android late last year and it is only now that it has been gaining attention after its version 2.0 upgrade was released recently. Just as what its name implies, Silence puts your phone into silent or vibrating mode automatically, following a schedule you have input beforehand. Once that amount of time has elapsed, your phone goes back to its loud-ringing ways. There is no limit to the number of events you can create, so you can map out your phone’s silencing schedule for an entire week.

“It’s been nothing short of magical to me,” writes Chris Velazco of TechCrunch.

The version 2.0 update brings new features into the app, such as turning your mobile data connection on and off when needed, the ability to retrieve events from your Google Calendar, and the ability to schedule when your phone’s notifications, media, and alarm volumes off.
