Samsung Unveils Galaxy S II Smartphone

Samsung formally introduces the first of its new mobile gadgets for 2011. The Galaxy S II keeps up with other high-end smartphones for 2011 with its new 1GHz dual-core processor.

The phone, a follow-up to Samsung Galaxy S, also features support for HSPA+, as well as dual cameras. The rear-facing 8-megapixel camera has a LED flash, while the 2-megapixel camera in the front is ideal for video conferencing.

Also on this new smartphone is a 4.27-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, which features high-quality color gamut, contrast ratio, and edge sharpness.

However, unlike any other 2011 smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S II runs on Google’s latest mobile OS, the Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread).

No official word as to when it will be released and whether the new Samsung Galaxy S II will land North American markets.
