Samsung has confirmed it is set to launch a Galaxy Tab designed specifically for children. The Samsung tablet for kids, nicknamed Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, comes pre-installed with kid-safe apps and games, as well as a Kid’s Store and parental control features.

Parents would be able to set which websites and apps their kids can view, limit the amount of time they can use the Samsung tablet for kids, and set passwords to restricted programs among others.

The Android 4.1-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 7-inch touch screen with 1024 x 600 resolution, dual cameras (front and back), and 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card).

The South Korean company will also offer an easy-to-grip Kids Case and a C Pen stylus to add more fun with doodling on a tablet.

Kid-oriented tablets are considered part of a niche market. This Samsung tablet for kids goes head-to-head with the likes of Nabi, Tabeo by Toys “R” Us, and even Amazon’s Kindle Fire and its parental controls.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids will be available first in Korea starting September. It will then roll out to other markets in the coming weeks. No pricing has been announced yet, but it is expected to be sold below the $200 mark.
