Tongues have been wagging as the Mobile World Congress draws near, especially on speculations about a possible launch of Samsung Galaxy S5. The South Korean company will hold its “Unpacked 5” event on Day 1 of the trade show in Barcelona, and with “5” snuck into the event’s title, rumors are bound to fly.
Last year, the Galaxy S4 was unveiled a few weeks after the MWC, at a separate launch event in New York City. However, a report from New York Times claims that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is part of the Unpacked 5’s agenda and may even unveil a new wearable device to make up for the heavily-panned Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
The Unpacked 5 event is scheduled for Monday, February 24 at 2PM EST. The show will be livestreamed for those who cannot attending the show. Sources tell iTechAddict blog that unlike the really loud and theatrical Galaxy S4 launch, the Unpacked 5 will have a more subdued tone.
It would be interesting to see how Samsung’s new flagship smartphone will fare against its predecessor. Sales of Galaxy S4 were below expected estimates, but still managed to do well compared to previous models.
