Call it smart marketing or riding along the coattails of the gold-colored iPhone 5S. Nevertheless, Samsung hints of a gold-colored Galaxy S4 in its Twitter account and Facebook page for the Middle East market Wednesday.

“Have you seen the new elegant ‪#‎GalaxyS4‬ new ‪#‎GoldEdition‬ colors,” Samsung Gulf asked. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Gold Edition comes in two tones: gold brown and gold pink.

The post did not elaborate about any other update apart from coming up with new color options for the Samsung’s flagship smartphone, as well as when the Galaxy S4 Gold Edition will be available in the region or whether it will roll out to other markets.

Mashable calls the new phone a “clever move by Samsung,” considering the company is outing a gold-colored device in the Middle East where its consumers have way too much money to shell out. If this seemingly luxury smartphone becomes successful to the elite crowd in the Gulf, perhaps we might see the Galaxy S4 Gold Edition in other countries as well.

Reaction so far about the gold-colored Galaxy S4 have been generally negative, calling it a “new low” for the smartphone company often accused of following the foot steps of Apple, even though Samsung manufactures the hardware for the iPhone. Either they are just Apple fans or simply oblivious.

I like the gold pink model. Don’t judge me.
