Do you find the smartphone you are holding too small for you? Worry no more because Samsung’s gigantic handset is due to arrive in the US of A! True to its name, the Samsung Galaxy Mega sports a 6.3-inch screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, and 1.5GB of RAM.

While there are Android smartphones currently available in the market with higher screen resolution and more efficient performance, its enormous screen is the device’s main selling point. At 6.3 inches, the Samsung Galaxy Mega is significantly larger than a smartphone, but a few millimeters smaller than a phablet.

The Galaxy Mini also includes features found in many of its cousins. It sports an Air View functionality, wherein the screen senses your finger tip as it hovers over the screen. There is also the Multi Window, where in two apps can run on the same screen at the same time. You can even use the Samsung Galaxy Mega ability to change TV channels like a remote control, thanks to its infrared port.

This enormous smartphone was first introduced in April, selling the device in a number of overseas markets. In the US, the Galaxy Mega will be available on AT&T, Sprint, and US Cellular in “nova black” and “polaris white.” AT&T will retail the Samsung Galaxy Mega beginning August 23 for either $24 a month or $150 with a two-year carrier contract. Sprint and US Cellular have yet to annouce details on the availability of Galaxy Mega on their respective shelves.

Analysts were worried about the Samsung Galaxy Mega’s performance, that it might canibalize Samsung’s own Note phablet, which comes with a stylus to quickly tweak documents. Others, however, believe that the market can accomodate two large-sized computing devices.
