Word on the street is that the next iPad Mini, which we will call “iPad Mini 2” in the meantime, will likely sport a Retina display. The Wall Street Journal cites sources from Apple’s suppliers in Asia, claiming production has been geared up (read: longer working hours) to make up for the assembly of Apple’s new tablet.

An interesting thing to note on this report is that Samsung is among Apple’s suppliers for the iPad Mini 2’s display. Every gadget fan has witnessed the extensive legal battles between Apple and Samsung.

Apple did not confirm the veracity of WSJ’s report.

The report comes after Apple released iOS 7 Beta 4 version earlier this week and some developers have spotted references about future devices hidden within the iOS 7 Beta’s code. Their analysis suggests that these specific parts found in the code are proof that the iPad Mini 2 would actually not come with a Retina Display, which would counter the latest rumors.

So what exactly is a Retina Display? It is a phrase that Apple popularized, referring to a high-resolution screen. The new iPad Mini allegedly has a 7.9 inch screen and 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, a welcoming phase to the Retina-less original iPad Mini. Other Apple products from the iPad to the MacBook have Retina displays, which brings sharper images, but not as sharp as Google’s Nexus 7.
