The upcoming Rock Band 3 video game will add a instrument to the fray with the introduction of a keyboard peripheral, which will bring the virtual band to seven (drums, lead and bass guitars, keyboards, lead vocals, and two harmony vocals).
The keyboard attachment spans two octaves so it can be played with both hands. It works pretty much like the guitar peripheral on screen, with five colored labels flowing on a stream , each representing its corresponding keys. In the Pro mode, however, the stream shifts left and right so that all 25 keys are used. It also doubles as a MIDI keyboard that can be connected to a computer. The keyboard can be played either on the lap or strapped over the shoulder for players who prefer it keytar style.
The Rock Band 3 will be available for the holidays for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
