There’s always an app for that, but we doubt your iPhone could help you hear better…until now. Apple has partnered with Danish company GN ReSound to come up with the world’s first hearing aid for iPhone. The ReSound LiNX hearing aid, which happens to be GN’s smallest wireless device to date, connects to your iPhone using a technology similar to Bluetooth.
Both companies hope the ReSound LiNX would alleviate the stigma associated with the use of hearing aids. In a statement, GN ReSound’s CEO Lars Viksmoen says their latest gadget “underlines (their) core strength of bringing breakthrough innovations to the hearing impaired, making them consumers with choices rather than patients with challenges”.
While most hearing aids use intermidiary transmitters, the LiNX uses 2.4GHz wireless technology to communicate directly to your iPhone while consuming less battery life compared to Bluetooth and WiFi. The two devices connect similarly to how smartwatches and fitness trackers relay data to smartphones.
This hearing aid not only enhances the audio around it, but also streams music and even receive phone calls. It comes with its own iOS app so users can personalize their settings.
The ReSound LiNX hearing aid for iPhone will around $3,000 when it launches globally in first quarter of 2014.
