After holding out the presales numbers of iPhone 5C, Apple has reported Monday the official number on iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S sales, and it sounds pretty.

According to Apple, a combined total of nine million units of iPhone 5S and 5C were sold within three days after the launch of the new iPhone models last Friday. The company did not reveal the percentage breakdown of each iPhone, but the announcement marks a new record for Apple.

The company said demand for iPhone 5S exceeded their expectations, selling out its initial supply. Apple also added that a bulk of online orders are expected to ship the new smartphone “in the coming weeks”.

While Apple keeps the proportion between iPhone 5S sales and that of the iPhone 5C close to their chest, mobile phone retailers in the United Kingdom told reporters they are frustrated over the short supplies of iPhone 5S, while the iPhone 5C remains widely available.

Apple’s CEO Time Cook even added that 200 million iOS devices are now running iOS 7, compared to last year’s 100 million who updated to iOS 6 three days after launching the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are initially available in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Canada, China, Puerto Rico, and Singapore.
