Qriket: Where QR Code Scanning Pays Off in Cash

QR codes are everywhere these days from movie posters to the roof of Facebook headquarters. But people do not seem to be interested about scanning these distorted checkerboards because they do not see any real reason to scan them.

A startup in Toronto plans on making this dull activity profitable for you. The Qriket, an app available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, enters people into a contest for a chance to win cash prizes every time they use the app to scan a QR code.

The money comes from companies who pay out Qriket users (or as I would like to call them, Qriketeers) who scan their QR codes from as little as $1 to as much as $50. Why you ask? Because these companies would like its customers remain engaged with their brands, along with the QR codes they have incorporated into their marketing campaigns.

The response has been positive. Since its launch in November 2011, Qriket has paid out more than half a million dollars to players from around the world, with its top players regularly scanning hundreds of QR codes daily.

Qriket is available for free on iTunes.
