In places where electric bikes are all the rage, one of the obstacles is the availability of chargers in case they run out of energy outdoors. Kyocera, however, has introduced a solution in the form of a “Solar Cycle Station,” which is basically a bike stand that enables e-bike owners to charge their bikes with the help of solar power.
The bike stand features three solar modules that can reach a maximum output of 79.8 Volts and an operating current of 7.84 Amperes. The manufacturer even theorizes that if you face the stations southward, each of them can produce up to 1.14kWh per day. Up to six e-bikes can be charged simultaneously. Such charging station is a great addition in Japanese streets, where demand for electric bicycles grew by over 50% in the last five years.
The Kyocera Solar Cycle Station, just like any solar power generators, does not come cheap. Each one costs around US$23,000.
