Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has unveiled a mobile device for those who cannot get enough of megapixels in their selfies. The Oppo Find 7 can capture photos at up to 50 megapixels, a lot more than most camera-equipped smartphones. Its display even sports up to 3 million pixels.
While the 50-megapixel camera can produce images with higher resolution compared to those taken by the Nokia Lumia 1020, Mashable says it is all a software trick. “The image sensor on the Find 7 is actually 13 megapixels, but in Super Zoom mode it’ll snap 10 pics in rapid succession,” Pete Pachal writes. “It then combines the four best photos to create the 50-megapixel images.”
The Oppo Find 7 also features a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 4K video recording capability, and screen protection from Gorilla Glass 3. It also has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable thanks to its microSD card slot), as well as supports 4G LTE networks.
The company has launched the Find 7 in a major event in Beijing, complete with hashtags. Oppo says the gadget is priced at an unsubsidized $599.
If you find the Oppo Find 7 too expensive, the company offers a “step down” version, which includes a full HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. This model costs $499.
Oppo has announced the Find 7 will be available in China first before rolling it out globally including India, Europe, and North America. Details about release dates and carrier partners remain hush-hush.
