Nokia joins the growing list of companies that aim to dominate the smartwatch market. This information does not come from speculations and rumors like Apple’s so-called iWatch, but on an actual patent. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Nokia with an approval of its application to patent a “multi-segment wearable accessory”, which can be interpreted as having a smartwatch with up to six small touch screens.

The Nokia smartwatch, which goes by the codename “Facet”, shows different apps running on each segment. One screen displays the time, while another shows the user’s email, and in another screen appears an image of what seems to be a caller in a video chat.

The patent application also reveals that each touchscreen can pop out of each segment. This concept Nokia smartwatch also gives users the opportunity to customize the placement of apps through touch and swipe gestures. For instance, place your fingers on two screens and slide them farther to make one of the apps expand its coverage into two screens. Apps can also be moved around the wristband by sliding the touchscreen.

The Nokia smartwatch has an interesting concept, but will it be a hit to the public if it ever becomes mass-produced? Share your opinions in our comments section!
