Nokia officially acquired by Microsoft

As reported, Nokia has officially announced the acquisition of its devices and services business to Microsoft over the weekend. Nokia has long been offering mobile phones that run on Windows Phone, and Microsoft has announced its new arm will continue to support Nokia’s feature phone that do not run on Windows Phone such as Asha and Nokia X ranges.

The press releases from both companies do not reveal much about future plans or shift in focus. “Today we welcome the Nokia Devices and Services business to our family. The mobile capabilities and assets they bring will advance our transformation,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said. “Together with our partners, we remain focused on delivering innovation more rapidly in our mobile-first, cloud-first world.”

Former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, who has since moved on to become Microsoft’s head of hardware division, also released a similar statement: “As Microsoft and Nokia Devices and Services come together as an expanded family, we will unify our passion, dedication and commitment to bringing you the best of what our joint technologies have to offer.”
