After claiming that they have beaten Sony, Nintendo CEO Satory Iwata believes that the new battlefield in gaming will not be done in traditional couch-sitting-while-mashing-buttons way as the company sets its eyes on a new “enemy of the future”: Apple. This comes after Nintendo suffered in profits for the first time in six years.
With the introduction of the iPod Touch as a gaming device, a threat to the dominant Nintendo DS, it appears that the gaming industry has a lot of exciting things to happen. Do not forget that Sony and Microsoft are also giving their take on family-oriented gaming.
Nintendo has recently altered its strategy of targeting children and dedicate fanboys by raising the average age and gender mix of the gamers. The result, however, is not inspiring as a survey involving high-school girls and men aged 30-40 states that most of the respondents would rather have an iPhone than a DS in their pockets or handbags.
