Nikon launches a pair of digital cameras for the adventure-savvy. The Nikon Coolpix AW120 (above), the 2014 version of the AW110, and the S32 (an update of last year’s S31, below) can be used while underwater, but that is the only similarity between the two.
The $350 Coolpix AW120 is waterproof by up to 18 meters (59 feet), shockproof to 2 meters (6.6 feet), and can tolerate freezing temperatures up to -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). It is packed with a f/2.8-4.9, 24-130mm (5x) optical zoom lens, a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, 1080/30p and 60i video capture, and a 6.9fps continuous shooting mode. The camera is also featured with a 3-inch OLED display, as well as built-in GPS and WiFi to upload images and videos when online.
Meanwhile, the Nikon Coolpix S32 has a much more affordable pricing at $130. And with lower price comes less impressive specs. It is waterproof up to 10 meters (33 feet), shockproof to 1.5 meters (5 feet), and freeze-proof up to -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). It has f/3.3-5.9, 30-90mm (3x) optical zoom lens, a 13.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, and a 2.7-inch QVGA LCD. This camera can also capture 1080/30p video and comes with a variety of scene modes and effects.
The Nikon Coolpix AW120 will ship beginning next month in black, blue, camouflage, and orange. The Coolpix S32, meanwhile, will also be available by next month in white and blue.
