Apart from the iPad Air, Apple also takes the veil off its latest version of iPad mini.
This time, the new iPad mini comes with something sorely lacking in its first model: a Retina display. The new mini tablet sports a 7.9-inch screen with 2048 x 1536 resolution, which is the same as the iPad Air.
On the inside, the new iPad mini sports the latest A7 processor just like the iPhone 5S and up to 10 hours of battery life. Apple also boasts about this new tablet’s improved performance, up to four times faster in CPU tasks and eight times faster at graphics tasks.
Meanwhile, Apple has announced the original iPad mini will remain available for purchase at a discounted price of $299. This is $30 less than the original price. The lack of a Retina display has often been cited why the first iPad mini cannot compete with similarly-sized tablets, especially the Nexus 7.
The new iPad mini with Retina display will be priced at $399. Customers can choose between two color combos: white bezel with silver back; and black bezel with “space gray” back. Apple has yet to divulge details on pre-order and availability, except that these tablets will roll out in time for the holidays, “later in November” to be exact.
