Many smartphones today are not designed to withstand the severe elements. Many of them remain quite sensitive that users have to take great care not to subject them to harsh conditions. For some people, this may not be practical. They need a smartphone that can withstand occasional drops, bumps, water splashes, high or low temperatures and consider it just a normal day. For such people, there is the new NEC Terrain Ultra Rugged Smartphone to consider.
The new NEC Terrain rugged smartphone is not your ordinary run-of-the-mill variety. It comes with ultra rugged features for people who do not live under normal conditions. They are the people that require their phones to withstand whatever pressures the harsh elements may give them. The NEC Terrain is designed to do just that. This smartphone is built to MIL-STD-810G specs. The NEC Terrain is up to such standards. It is waterproof, drop resistant, dustproof and able to withstand extreme temperatures.
The NEC Terrain features a 1.5Ghz dual core QualComm Snapdragon S4 processor. It also comes with 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 32 GB using a microSD card. A possible letdown may be its not-so-current Android OS version. The phone still runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The NEC has also PTT capabilities and support LTE networks aside from 3G and 4G. It also comes with a full QWERTY keyboard to appeal to enterprise users, which is the primary target for this type of smartphone. It also comes with a 3.1-inch high-resolution screen, a 5MP rear camera along with a 0.3MP front camera. It also comes with Wi-Fi and NFC features as well. The NEC Terrain rugged smartphone is available in the US from AT&T this month. Users can have it for US$100 for a two-year contract.
