NEC Medias X 06E: The Liquid-Cooled Smartphone

Smartphones tend to get a tad too hot when being used for a long time, especially when used for purposes other than taking calls like checking on your Facebook or taking photos and video. The heat is caused by the processor, along with other parts, performing many tasks at hand, which may put your device at risk of overheating and make the device un-repairable and unusable. Japanese phone maker NEC hopes to diminish the worries of consumers concerned about the possibility of having their smartphones fried with its new liquid-cooled smartphone: the NEC Medias X 06E.

This handset features a liquid cooling pipe located right behind the display and next to the processor. This cooling method, common among high-end computers, transfers heat away from the processor through repeated evaporation and condensation. Should we expect other mobile companies to come up with liquid-cooled smartphones as well? We could only hope.

The NEC Medias X 06E also comes with a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, a 4.7-inch OLED screen, and a rear-facing camera with a whopping 13.1-megapixel sensor.

The NEC Medias X 06E will be available in Japan through NTT Docomo beginning in June. No word yet on whether it will be sold overseas, but let us not keep our hopes up, especially being a Japanese mobile phone.
