Motorola has officially introduced to the public the Moto X, its first flagship smartphone after Google acquired the mobile company. And just like what Guy Kawasaki hinted back in March, the phone is fully-customizable before the smartphone lands on your doorstep.
The Motorola Moto X allows consumers to customize some of the phone’s outer components such as the front and back covers. They offer more than 2,000 design combinations wherein they can choose different colors combinations for their covers and even the accents through Motorola’s online design studio. You can even have a custom message engraved at the back, as well as a cover made of wood, if you prefer it that way.
The new Motorola smartphone is assembled in the United States, the first smartphone to be made in the country after a long time. This is a welcoming news amidst a sea of overseas-made smartphones. Because the Moto X is manufactured domestically, it will only take up to four days for the phone to be shipped to your door.
Apart from the design, you can also choose between a 16GB or 32GB version of the Moto X.
The device runs on Android 4.2.2 and has 2GB of RAM. It features a 4.7-inch touch screen, a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera, a two-megapixel front camera, and a capability to record video with 1080p HD resolution. It also has a new camera interface that lets users launch the camera just by shaking the Moto X quickly and tapping anywhere on the screen to shoot a photo.
It also comes with advanced voice control options, wherein you just have to say “OK Google Now” to activate, as well as up to 50GB of free cloud storage for two years with Google Drive.
The Moto X will be available first on AT&T as early as late August and will cost $199.99 with a two-year contract for the 16GB version. Shell out $50 more, or $249.99, and you get the 32GB model. Other carriers such as Sprint, Verizon, U.S. Cellular, and T-Mobile will offer the Moto X at a later date.
