Modus III turns iPad into workstation

You let go of your laptop or desktop in favor of a tablet because of the portability, but you find typing on the screen a hassle and annoying. You end up missing the physical keyboard, so you purchase one that attaches to your iPad, but because it is as wide as your tablet, it does not provide the comfort you get from the normal-width keyboard. With that in mind, take a look at the Modus III and wonder if you are convinced into backing it up on Kickstarter.

Modus III looks like a fairly large dock for your iPad, turning it into a workstation for your home office. Sure there are other tablet docks and keyboard cases that offer just that, but Modus III has some features that set it apart from the rest. For one, this keyboard dock enables you to position the iPad into ergonomically-friendly configurations.

The clip-in module clicks your iPad into place, whatever iPad model you have (starting with iPad 2). The Modus III also comes with a built-in Bluetooth keyboard, an iPhone dock that turns your handset into a mini second screen, a space for your charger cables, and a rear stand bracket that hoists the tablet upright. Note that the phone module can also fit micro-USB-enabled Android smartphones.

The size may be a turn off for some. At 1.2 x 11.5 x 15.75 inches and 2.4 pounds, this portable workstation adds significant size and weight to your iPad. Even TechCrunch kidded that you might be better off with a smaller keyboard case or just use a MacBook Air instead. But since this is a prototype version, it is likely that the Modus III will become smaller in future models.

Interested Kickstarter backers can pledge for at least $169 to get their very own Modus III as soon as December, but this campaign seems like an uphill battle, having gathered $4,800 of its $95,000 funding goal as of this posting, with 30 days to go.
