Mini Version of Wikipad Gaming Tablet Coming This Spring

Looks like the Razer Edge won’t be the only gaming tablet to watch out for this 2013. Wikipad has announced that its much-delayed tablet of the same name is set to be launched this year. The 7-inch Wikipad sports a Tegra 3 GPU, a 1280 x 800 resolution display, a 1GB DDR3 RAM, 16GB of Flash memory, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Wikipad was originally designed as a 10.1-inch tablet, but the company held back its release for some “minor refinement,” which by now meant they trimmed down the screen size while retaining the high-quality performance.

Fraser Townley, Wikipad’s president of sales, said that the gaming tablet’s design is the same as they have envisioned for the 10.1-inch version.

“We took the pinball wizard approach,” he said. “We made everybody in the room shut their eyes, and try the controllers. It’s not about the looks, it’s about the feel. Once we got the feel right, then we could worry about the look. That’s how the ten inch was born, and that’s how the seven inch stayed the same.”

The tablet also comes with a chrome game pad attachment, which comes with four command buttons (labeled a, b, x, and y).

Wikipad remains silent on its tablet’s specific availability, but rumors have been circling that it will be out after Chinese New Year (February 10th). As for the 10.1-inch model, Townley said it will be launched “before Christmas.”
