Microsoft has learned its lessons when it comes to mobile communications. We all know what happened when they tried to incorporate the Windows desktop experience into a cell phone. But now, the company is proud to announce the official launch of nine handsets that run on Windows Phone 7 OS, or WP7 for short, with another one to be introduced in 2011.
These smartphones will wind up on over 60 wireless distributors in more than 30 countries this year, including AT&T (USA), T-Mobile (USA), Vodafone (UK and Australia), Telus (Canada), Deutsche Telekom (Germany), Movistar (Spain), SFR (France), SingTel (Singapore), and Telstra (Australia). Additional carriers such as Sprint and Verizon in the United States will also join in the fray come 2011 with their own WP7-powered handsets.
The nine WP7 phones, all running on Snapdragon processors, have 480 x 800 resolution WVGA screens. The HTC 7 Surround (pictured), also known as T8788, features a 3.8-inch screen with slideout speaker; the HTC HD7 has a 4.3-inch screen with specs similar to the HD2; the HTC 7 Trophy is similar to the Spark, but with a 3.8-inch display; HTC 7 Mozart has a 3.7-inch display and caters to the international users; Dell Venue Pro will to the T-Mobile, featuring a 4.1-inch portrait QWERTY slider keyboard; AT&T, meanwhile, will have the Samsung Focus, a 4-inch Super AMOLED handset; Samsung Omnia 7, with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, will land on European markets; the 3.8-inch LG Optimus 7/ 7Q; and LG Quantum, a 3.5-inch landscape slider. The tenth handset, the 3.6-inch QWERTY slider HTC 7 Pro, will land on Sprint next year.
