JVC Introduces New HD Camcorder for Under $500

JVC Everio GZ-HM340

Remember when HD camcorders were first introduced and we thought the prices were ridiculous?  Good thing the manufacturers felt the public pulse and prices went down as new products rolled in.  The latest HD camcorder from JVC may not be as cheap as the 399-dollar Dual Xacti 2010 from Sanyo, but at least it is a little bearable compared last time.

The JVC Everio GZ-HM340 features 16GB of internal flash memory, which can be expanded using a SD/ SDHC card.  Physical specs include 1.37-megapixel sensor with 20x optical zoom, Konica-Minolta HD lens, and a two-way grip belt.

This camcorder can record high-quality video clips even in low light and moving situations, as well as auto recording and time lapse recording modes.  Other features include face detection, one-touch upload to YouTube, and laser touch operation found at the side of the LCD screen.

The auto record feature automatically initiates recording when a moving subject enters the frame and the luminance changes, which can be used for home surveillance, baby monitoring, wildlife recording, and group shots.  Meanwhile, time lapse recording creates video clips in one- to 80-second intervals, making hour-long events trimmed down to just seconds.

The JVC Everio GZ-HM340 will be available in a few weeks for only US$499.95.
