In what appears to be a preparation for the iPhone 6, Apple has reduced the prices of previous iPhone models. Wal-Mart, for instance, has announced it is selling the iPhone 5C for only 97 cents. That’s almost a 97% discount! Meanwhile, the iPhone 5S will be sold in the retail giant from $99 to $79.
The newly discounted phones still come with a two-year contract with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular. The deal will be valid for 90 days, so you still have a lot of time to think about buying an iPhone 5C priced below one dollar.
The iPhone 5C price slash has yet to take effect in the Apple Store, where the 16GB model still costs $99.
The Washington Post speculates that the move could be Wal-Mart’s preparation for the next generation of iPhone, which has a rumored September 9 debut. Apple traditionally lowers the price of old iPhones weeks before its new iPhone is introduced.
The iPhone 6 is said to include a larger 4.7-inch screen, a new processor, enhanced camera, a reversible USB cord, and a design that supposedly resembles the iPad Air.
