iPad Banned on Several US Universities

Looks like not everybody is welcoming the iPad with open arms as three American universities have banned the latest Apple tablet computer from their campuses. George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and Princeton University in New Jersey call the device “a security risk,” while Cornell University in New York is worried about how the students would consume too much bandwidth while using the iPad.

According to the Wall Street Journal, iPad is incompatible with some of the security features in Cornell’s and GWU’s wireless network, which is not the case when dealing with the usual laptops and netbooks. That does not mean, however, that the ban is forever as these school begin to restructure their wireless networks to make way for iPad at the beginning of the fall semester at the soonest. Note, however, that restructuring networks not only take quite a lot of time, but also expenses.
