Instagram has launched an app called Hyperlapse, which turns your shaky videos into professionally-made time-lapses. The Instagram Hyperlapse app is a free download in the Apple App Store (no word yet on the Android version).

The app turns video clips recorded in your smartphone in time-lapse videos, which usually would require expensive tracking rigs. Time-lapse is a film technique that records footage at a lower or faster frame rate than normal. For instance, slowing down the frame rate enables you to record a blooming flower in real time, but its resulting video shows the flower blooming at a much faster rate.

“Hyperlapse from Instagram features built-in stabilization technology that lets you create moving, handheld time lapses that result in a cinematic look, quality, and feel–a feat that has previously only been possible with expensive equipment,” the company wrote in its official blog.

Instagram Hyperlapse enables you to turn long footages into short clips without having to edit it. The lack of an editing feature, however, is its downside. You can tap to record and tap again to stop. After which, select the playback speed up to 12 times faster. These videos are then saved to the Camera Roll, which you can then share to Instagram or Facebook.
