The Home Shopping Network may not be the best source for tech updates, except for this case. The channel has revealed that Nook Color, Barnes and Noble’s e-book reader, will be updated on “mid-April” with an over-the-air software package.
The update would virtually convert the Kindle competitor into a tablet computer that happens to have e-book features. The Nook Color would run on Android 2.2, add Adobe Flash Player, Angry Birds, a push e-mail service, and a bunch of Nook apps. One of these apps, a kid-friendly sketchpad, was demonstrated on HSN.
The HSN hosts claim that those who purchased the Nook Color on their show are “guaranteed to be the very first people updates.” That claim, however, should probably be taken lightly.
