Phablets, those huge smartphone-tablet hybrids, also take centerstage at this year’s CES. Some phabs, however, are taking it to another level. Take for example the Hisense X1 with its ridiculously big, 6.8-inch screen. It is also fitted with above-average specs: Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 13-megapixel camera, 1080p IPS display, a 3,900mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat.

With all that components fitted into the device, the X1 accepts inputs smoothly and without delays, its display viewable even from an extreme angle, and a light-skinned OS that eliminates the clutter that would have made the gadget confusing to use.

The downside, however, to this device is the all-plastic exterior, removing any hint that it is gearing up for the premium phone market. While no defnite retail price has been revealed, Hisense spokespersons at the event said the Hisense X1 will be priced at mid-range. And with its sheer size, do not expect to hold it on one hand like any other smartphone.

The gadget is also not LTE-capable. Its radio standard can only go as much as HSPA+. Hisense, however, has an LTE-capable model called the X3, which was not shown at the company’s booth.

The Hisense X1 is slated to arrive in China first before debuting in the United States in late second quarter, which will be rebranded as Hisense Sliver.
