GreatCall has been making devices that cater to the American elderly and this one is no exception. The company has unveiled the Jitterbug Touch 2 smartphone for the new breed of aging Americans.

The Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Jitterbug Touch 2 sports a 4-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8625 processor, 512MB RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. Sure, these basic specs will not marvel the techie community, but GreatCall has something else up its sleeve that your grandparents would love.

The Jitterbug Touch 2 comes with an intuitive user interface, wherein it has sorted the phone’s main functions in a single list with large letters. The home screen also allows senior users to access their favorite apps and contacts in an instant, without having to navigate through numerous screens.

GreatCall has also tweaked some features from the original Jitterbug Touch based on suggestions from its customers. For instance, the “browser” function is now refered as “Internet,” while the voicemail icon is changed to the word “voicemail” for the Jitterbug Touch 2.

This senior-oriented smartphone even comes with a suite of health and medical apps. The 5Star Urgent Response app, for instance, provides instant access to response agents certified by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) in case of emergency situations. The phone also has apps that reminds elderly users of their medication and vitamin schedules.

The Jitterbug Touch 2 is now available on GreatCall’s website or by calling 1-866-352-0044. The phone costs $139.99 without contracts and cancellation fees. The company also offers flexible plans starting at just $2.49 a month.
