Garmin Astro 220

Garmin Astro 220

If you are tired of looking for your dog in tall grass when you go hunting, then the Garmin Astro 220 dog tracking system is for you.

It is the first GPS-enabled dog-tracking system for hunters and sportsmen. This system allows you to pinpoint your dog’s exact location even in dense cover or out of earshot.

The system

The Astro 220 includes a colored, handheld-GPS device and all-weather DC30 collar.

The collar has an integrated GPS transmitter. It is weighted to keep the antenna pointing upwards for maximum signal.

How it works

Simply go outside, switch the handheld device on to receive GPS satellite signals, attach the DC30 to your dog, and you are ready to let him loose.

Your dog’s DC30 collar transmits his location to your handheld device every 5 seconds, enabling you to see not only his current location but also a trail of where he has been on the Map page of your device.

The dog tracker page has a compass which points to your dog’s location. This page also lets you know his current status: running sitting, or on point, or treeing quarry.

The Astro 220 also sounds an alarm to inform you immediately when your dog goes on point.

This dog tracking device has a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, allowing you track your dog’s position even in really thick cover.

It also lets you monitor up to 10 dogs at a time, and at a distance of up to 7 miles, depending on the terrain.

The system transmits information by line of site so it reaches farthest in flat, open terrain.

Covey Counter

The Astro 220 also allows you to keep track of your covey. After you have captured your prey, mark exact location with Astro’s Covey Counter, a special waypoint that tells you the exact spot, time of day and elevation where you found your prey. It also tells you the number of birds you flushed and took from that location.

It also lets you mark other waypoints such as "truck," allowing you to save the locations quickly easily during each hunt. There different waypoint icons that you can use to represent food plots, tree stands, and other hunting-related points.

Other features

On top of all that, the Astro handheld has all the features of Garmin’s top-line handheld outdoor devices, including a barometric altimeter, electronic compass, microSDTM card slot, celestial information, area calculator and rugged, IPX7 waterproof exterior which means, not only will you be able to keep track of your dogs, it also helps you get home safely at the end of the day. Optional detailed city street maps allow you to search for over 6 million possible game areas and create a route on roads with exact turn-by-turn directions.
