Microsoft has acknowledged numerous complaints from users who received broken Xbox One units, particularly in its disc drive. Several early adopters have reported issues with the console’s disc drive, saying it makes loud noises when a disc is inserted or that it does not run games and movies at all.
Complaints can be seen aplenty on YouTube, Reddit, and even on Microsoft’s support forum. Some even left unfavorable reviews about broken Xbox One units on Amazon. “If it was just a sound from the initial load (I) might live with it for now, but nope, it won’t recognize a disc is in the drive even,” one Amazon reviewer noted.
Even tech website IGN reported that one of its Xbox One consoles had the same problem while testing the gadget for review. Meanwhile, over 150 gamers complained to gaming news site Kotaku about their broken Xbox Ones.
In a statement given to IGN, a spokesperson for Microsoft acknowledge the problem facing some units of Xbox One, saying it affected “a very small number” of customers and that the company is “working directly with affected individuals” to send them replacement consoles through its advance exchange program.
“We know that with a hardware launch of this magnitude customers will have questions and we have many avenues for customers to get the answers they need and get back in the game as soon as possible,” Microsoft said in a statement. “Rest assured we plan to take care of our customers. Any customer who believes they are experiencing an issue with their Xbox One should reach out to us through Xbox Support.”
