Energizer Duo Battery Charger Found to have Trojans

The United States Department of Homeland Security has revealed that the Energizer Duo USB charger has a loophole in its battery monitoring software for Windows, which leaves it susceptible from remote access that includes “the ability to list directories, send and receive files, and execute programs.”

If you have bought an Energizer Duo as is, your computer would not be in trouble.  The problem, however, lies once you have downloaded the battery monitoring software for Windows.  Owners of the Duo for Mac need not worry.

To remove the Trojan, you need to uninstall the software first, which would remove the Windows registry value that executes the Trojan.  Restart your computer, then go to the System32 directory and delete the file named “arucer.dll.”  You can also use a firewall to block access to 7777/tcp.
