I see Dance Central as a superior dance simulation game because it perfectly turns you into a pro dancer (at least in your head). Don’t get me wrong, I play Just Dance and I find many of the routines borderline juvenile and WTF. I mean, have you seen the Tetris dance for Just Dance 2015?
However, Just Dance has a one up against Dance Central. At least this Ubisoft game franchise releases a new sequel every year since 2009, while Harmonix-made series has yet to offer a new title since 2012 with Dance Central 3 until now.
Dance Central Spotlight looks like the highly-acclaimed dance simulation game, but it is stripped down to an extent. It offers no new choreography, as each routine is a combination of previously available moves. Its base game, available exclusively on Xbox Game Store, contains only 10 songs.
Harmonix has its reasons why it decided not to release a full-on sequel. The company wants players to dance to the hottest songs, not having to wait for months before it becomes available in a dance sim. The original 10 tracks in the base game come from the 2010s, including “Royals” by Lorde and “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Players can download new content, as well as older DC titles.
Most of the downloadable content are current hits, such as “Problem” by Arianna Grande, “Am I Wrong” by Nico and Vinz, and “All of Me (Tiesto Remix)” by John Legend. It also has classic songs like TLC’s “Creep” and The B-52s’ “Love Shack.” The new structure allows players to tailer Dance Central to their tastes.
