The UrbanX Wheel is a unique wheel replacement that can turn any bike into a functional electric bike. That beats having to buy a new e-bike and setting aside your ordinary bike to gather dust. With the UrbanX, you can simply change the wheel of your existing bike and you have for yourself an electric bike. The wheel features a 350W front drive motor that can go 20mph for up to 30 miles. The wheel is made out of aluminum, making it light and adds only 7kg when attached to a bike. It comes with a pedal assist system that allows riders to choose from 3 levels of assistance via the UrbanX app. The more pedaling the rider does, the longer the range that the e-bike can go.
The system also senses your pedaling and will provide the assist automatically depending on your rate of pedaling as well as the setting of the pedal assistance using the app. But if you wish to have more control over how you use the UrbanX Wheel, you can also get the optional thumb throttle that allows you to go 20 mph on your e-bike with just a touch of the button. Powering the UrbanX Wheel is a 36V, 3500mAh lithium ion battery that can be fully charged in 1.5 hours. The wheel can be installed in bikes using either disk or rim brake types. The UrbanX Wheel is currently going through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter where a pledge of $299 will get you one as an early adopter. The first of the UrbanX Wheels is expected to be shipped by July of this year.
