It is now so common for people to see drones up in the air. But it can be a challenge for some to learn how to control it. Some might find it too complicated just to direct a drone to where one wants it to go. But a new toy called the Aura drone has recently been introduced at the New York Toy Fair 2017. This quadcopter can be controlled by hand gestures instead of a set of buttons and joysticks.
The Aura Drone from KD Interactive stands out among current drones out there by its use of hand gestures to control the quadcopter’s flight. This drone makes use of the patented Gesturebotics technology by Locorobo Innovations. Users make use of the wearable glove controller in order to pilot the Aura drone. Hand gestures wearing the glove can make the Aura roll, turn, climb walls and fly around the room.
Inspired by military applications, hand gesture control allow easier and more intuitive control of the drone. It also helps reduce the learning curve of drone flying well enough for kids to do. A few practice flights will let kids able to control the Aura drone as compared to drones controlled by joysticks and buttons.
The Aura drone comes with a rolling cage to protect the quadcopter from crashing. It also automatically takes off and hovers four feet above the ground once it is paired with the glove controller, ready to be guided. The height and distance limitations allow the drone to fly indoors for a more controlled flight experience. The aura also features headless navigation which will always follow the users lead not matter its flight orientation. The Aura drone is expected to be available sometime in fall of this year for around $100.
