The People’s Republic of China has announced it is banning government agencies from installing Windows 8 into their computers. The China ban comes from the government’s suspicion that the Windows 8 is not secure enough.
In a statement issued last week, which only came to light recently after China’s official news agency picked the story, the Central Government Procurement Center has stated that all desktops, laptops, and tablets being used for official purposes must run in an OS other than Windows 8. The announcement does not cover consumer devices. Currently, a reported 70 percent of Chinese computers run on the 13-year-old Windows XP.
Instead, government computers in China will run on its own Linux-based OS, an idea they have been toying for a while.
