Checking Your Blood Glucose Level with Nintendo DS

Keeping diabetic kids healthy includes maintaining their blood glucose level, but Bayer has devised a way to make it interesting for them. The Didget monitors blood glucose levels, but at the same time can be plugged into the Game Boy slot of Nintendo DS or DS Lite to play its custom game called “Knock ‘Em Downs: World’s Fair.”

Simply upload the score that appears on the monitoring device and the kid will be able to unlock new levels and buy in-game items. The Didget comes with two modes of testing: The Basic and Advanced modes. The Basic Mode consists of a simple testing that takes only five seconds, while the Advanced Mode includes customizable features and supports the need for personalized treatment goals for children.

The problem, however, is that the Didget does not go well with the newer Nintendo DSi and its larger XL version. It is also unlikely to be compatible with the upcoming 3DS.

The Didget blood glucose monitoring system is available at Walgreen’s and CVS for about US$75.
