A number of iPhone 5S users have come to Apple’s support forums asking for help in this unexpected problem: the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). This error message is typically seen in older Microsoft PCs and it has made a comeback as some iPhone 5S owners complained about how their phones reboot suddenly after a BSOD.
The complaints first appeared in Apple’s support forums in late September and it appears that the BSOD problem happens specifically in iPhone 5S, mostly while users are utilizing any of Apple’s iWork apps that come free with all new iOS gadgets. Some cases of Blue Screen of Death happen while multitasking between apps, while some iPhone 5S users report that the error screen happens at random, followed by a reboot.
While Apple has recently released the iOS 7.0.2 to fix its bugs in lock-screen security, this latest version does not address the BSOD problem. Several suggestions appear in support forums and elsewhere to prevent the Blue Screen of Death from happening, such as exiting back to documents before pressing the Home button or disable the iCloud syncing function for iWork’s Pages, Keynote, and Numbers applications.
Apple has yet to comment on the blue screen errors as of this posting.
