BlackBerry Z10 Tells Your Contacts You Are Watching Porn

While the BlackBerry Z10 has been gaining buzz around the world, some tech journalists have spotted something quite embarrassing about BlackBerry’s latest flagship smartphone. Apparently, the BB10-powered phone can share to your social circles what you are watching on the web, including porn.

This can be found in Z10’s BlackBerry Messenger, part of BB10’s “deeper integration” with its propriety messaging app. The new feature allows those in your BBM contacts to view which songs and video clips you are playing, including from porn websites. Crackberry forums took screenshots of it, where contacts can see updates of their friends “listening to pornhub.com” or “listening to tube8.com.”

A spokesperson for BlackBerry tells Mashable that while it is possible that your contacts could see what sites you are visiting, users of BlackBerry Z10 are reminded that the “show what I’m listening to” feature can be turned off. Meanwhile, the “update your status” feature is off by default.

“Also, users are not sharing content to other users, they are only sharing the title of what is being played,” BlackBerry’s spokesperson reiterates.

The BlackBerry Z10’s media player streams audio, video, and flash from the mobile web browser. Because of this, whatever is played through the platform can be shared automatically with BBM contacts. However, such auto-share functionalities can be disabled by visiting the settings app and turn off the “show what I’m listening to” option.
