BlackBerry Q5, BB10 Smartphone for Emerging Markets, Unveiled

BlackBerry has unveiled its BB10-equipped smartphone for emerging markets. The BlackBerry Q5 looks similar to its high-end counterpart, the Q10, down to the QWERTY keyboard and its wide array of color options, which includes red, black, white, and pink.

“I know it’s going to be a big hit,” CEO Thorsten Heins said during BlackBerry Live trade event.

The BlackBerry Q5 will cater to markets where entry-level phones remain one of the most preferred choices among consumers. The Canadian mobile company aims to infiltrate markets where computers or laptops are scarce, but smartphones are needed.

Not much is known about its specs. All we know is that this handset has a 3.1-inch touchscreen, as well as a QWERTY keyboard. It also comes pre-installed with the latest version of BB10, which includes features like Time Shift and Story Maker, thus helping users create great photos every time they use the camera. The BlackBerry Q5 also has BBM Video, which combines BlackBerry Messenger and video chat, as well as screen sharing. Lastly, this phone comes with BlackBerry Hub, which lets users receive notifications and email among others without having to leave an application window.

Heins has revealed that the BlackBerry Q5 will be launched along with BlackBerry’s global carrier network beginning this July, starting with the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Africa. Pricing, however, remains hush-hush.
